Dear [salutation] [last name],
I would like to inform you that, after considering your submission, and in light of our current requirements and the other submissions we have received, unfortunately we have decided not to choose you for the position.
On behalf of the team, I would like to thank you for making us part of your journey towards more opportunities, and for taking part in our own journey of growth. I know the challenge has been tough for you and your fellow participants, and I would also like to thank you for taking it on.
However, I would also like to mention that I, personally, or my organization as a whole, cannot be held responsible for the distress this letter may cause you. We absolve ourselves of any responsibility for determining that you do not have what it takes to be part of our team. It is not our fault that you are not what we need; it is most certainly not because we didn't see what you had to offer. We have performed due diligence, and we have determined that you are just not enough for it.
We also absolve ourselves of any responsibility for the impact our decision may have had on our physical, mental and emotional state. It is not our fault that you have received several letters which has a similar spirit to this one in the past few days. It is not our fault that you have, in the past few days, attempted to find for yourself a place where you would be accepted, not knowing that, no matter how much you try, you just do not fit in. This world is cruel, especially so for those who just do not have what it takes.
We are not responsible for your feelings of inadequacy or hopelessness; ultimately, we believe, it is your fault, not ours. It is your fault that you did not prepare wholly for our challenge. It is your fault that you did not, at any point prior, accumulate the skills and the network needed to be part of our team. Or for any team, for that matter. It is your fault that you did not decide, at an early point, that you wanted to be where you wanted to be. That you were indecisive earlier on. That you chose to have fun rather than going to work.
As such, I, personally, and my organization as a whole, would like to disavow ourselves from any expenses or claims you may make on the basis of the impact of this letter on your physical, mental or emotional state. Any claims made will be ignored, and persistent claims will be persistently ignored. The only recourse for you is to move on from this phase and find a place that you can truly call your own.
I hope you luck in your future endeavors.
Regards,
