The walls are up

I sometimes said that I can see Vico Sotto's office from my window.

Yeah, I think I'm the only one who found that funny. Yes, I think that was supposed to be a joke, and I pummeled that to death without anyone laughing at it, so perhaps I am a failure as a person. Snap out of it, Niko. This isn't the point of the whole entry.

Right. But, yes, I could see Vico Sotto's office from my window. At least his office building. The Pasig city hall. If you know what to look for, you'll find it. You could also see as far out as the Sierra Madre mountains. That's how high up I am.

Sure, it wasn't good for beating the morning sun shining too brightly into the flat. Like, my window directly faces west, and on sunny mornings I couldn't sit on the sofa even if I want to. But the fact that I could see far meant I had the best chance of "resting" my eyes every hour or so. They do say you should stare at something ten feet away, or something, every so often to rest your eyes, especially if you've been in front of a screen. Well, I have kilometers.

I had kilometers.

Okay, I still have kilometers, but it's a matter of time before I change tenses on this one. For the longest time my window was right next to an empty lot, but I knew another condominium complex would go up. It was naïve of me, in hindsight, to ask the real estate agent if the developers planned to build a park on the lot. Of course not. Fucking maximize your profits!

The new buildings are actually taller than the one I am in now. The first tower had already completely covered my view of the basketball courts of the condominium complex next door. The second tower, though - that one's going to block my view of Vico's office. Okay, not drilling the so-called joke now. Happy? That one's going to block my view of the Sierra Madre. I assume, not purely out of guesswork, that the second tower will be taller than the first, so, yeah, goodbye to my view of the mountains and the Laguna de Bay and a handful of unidentifiable factories alongside the Pasig River.

I suppose I should be thankful that I am not going to be facing a building directly. I won't be losing the air circulation. Once all of this is done, my window will be looking out at the amenities level of the new condominium complex. Bow my head, and I will see a swimming pool. I'll feel like a voyeur, but I suppose that's what I get from city living.

But not yet. It's still a construction site, so right now all I see is a lot of pre-cast concrete parts and the beginnings of a swimming pool. But the second tower is already high enough. It's working on the 20th floor - one floor higher than my flat. It's weird seeing those construction workers like they're just right beside me. Well, as I said. Voyeurism. City living. And so on.

On the upside, the morning sun will no longer be my problem anymore. So, yay, I guess.

And your responses...
