You can always buy scotch tape downstairs

I realized I didn't have any scotch tape in the flat. I only have electrical tape, which isn't a great idea if I want the contents of this envelope to stay mostly intact.

But, yeah, right, I do live in the middle of the city now.

I know there are virtues of living far away from the hustle and bustle. I realized this when I sleep over at my parents' house - the place I lived in for 27 years - every now and then. Sure, it's in a busy subdivision that's as commercialized as any other gated community in the capital, but when I wake up in the morning I still hear a rooster crowing, maybe some birds chirping, but more likely, a neighbor a few houses down with the radio on full blast.

But - and this was especially true when I was a kid - everything felt so far away. We went to the nearest mall every two weeks, which was fun for us - mostly because it meant Odd Balls - but not so when we had to carry a lot of plastic bags with groceries inside to the parking lot, and again when we finally arrive home. So I always had a yearning for being at the center of everything, where you can get whatever you want within a short walking distance. Not exactly as exciting now considering you can have anything delivered to you, but it's difficult to bust what the young me dreamed of.

So, yes, I live in the middle of the city now. There are many convenience stores, and I'm absolutely certain they would have scotch tape. You just have to find where it is exactly. No two 7-Elevens are alike. The older one has school supplies tucked away above the personal care products. Great. But then, I only see masking tape. Not appropriate. Electrical tape? As I said, not appropriate. Double-sided tape? Ditto. And then, I find it: a small roll of scotch tape.

Then I realize: haven't I bought scotch tape before?

I did. It was a few weeks ago. I was at La Salle. Specifically, I was going home from La Salle. Well, no. I was going to a friend's baby's reception. I offered to bring two more friends along, and we decided to meet up at one of the many condominium buildings that now surround the campus. This one had a bookstore, and I impulsively got a slightly bigger roll, because you'll never know when you need it. In this case, I think it was to help one of my friends, who was waiting at the Dunkin' next door, seal up her gift for the baby. I hate that I didn't think of giving a gift, but then, this is genuinely the first time I am meeting the parents in person. Weird, right?

But then, I already made the effort to go downstairs, so I bought the small roll anyway. And a pint of ice cream for good measure. Anyway, that small roll can go in the bedroom drawer. If I'm correct, the bigger roll is in one of the baskets on top of the fridge, where some of the cat stuff are.

Yep.

So I took that one out, got my newer pair of scissors - the one in my desk, not the one in the kitchen - and cut off two strips. I took the envelope, turned it around, and put the tape over the flap - and then, just because, I showed it to my cat.

And your responses...
