The exposed midriff

A woman wearing a crop top entered the café, and I stared at her intently. But not because of the exposed midriff.

Okay, it is because of the exposed midriff. But also because the rain got stronger the moment she entered, and I couldn't help but think of her thought process when she chose what she would wear before she went to the café.

And no, I'm pretty sure this is not me policing a woman's choices. But I really couldn't help but think. It's been gloomy all day. It's been raining hard last night. Wouldn't wearing a crop top make you too cold? And it's not like she had a jacket, too.

Am I putting my thought process on top of hers? I have deliberately chosen to wear jeans instead of shorts when I know it's particularly rainy. I wouldn't call getting my legs wet unsanitary, but it does make me feel less put together, so to speak. So says I, wearing shorts, in this very café, on this very rainy day.

But then, I have a car, so it really shouldn't be much of a problem. It's not like I'll have to get out of my car in the middle of a very flooded street, after having foolishly thought I could push through a never ending sea of, well, floodwater. I'd get my feet wet, and I'm just wearing my walking shoes that are decidedly breathable and definitely not water-resistant or anything. I wouldn't go out if that was the case.

But we never really know, do we?

Maybe she feels good in her crop top, and is in a car the rest of the way anyway.

I terminate my thoughts there, because I realize it's getting too weird, and all I really wanted was to write another post on this blog, and was it really worth it?

And your responses...
